We Press On

Earlier last year, it was about finally taking an unplanned break from college, reading about dalgona coffee, home gardening, and baking attempts of the quarantined masses.

It was fun while it lasted. But reality sat in and we knew then that the situation will forever alter the way we do work, school, and socialization.

It’s been a turbulent year into the pandemic.

We haven’t really felt the trauma of being positive…..

But we felt the grief of our friends who lost their loved ones.
We felt the craving for dining with the family.
We felt the silent anxiety of being stuck at home for too long.
We felt the fear of one day being laid off from work and our single-income family will be left to struggle.

We felt the concern for our aging parents in the Philippines, where 150,000 cases were tallied in a single day.

We felt… hopeless.

It’s survival of the fittest with billionaires amassing e-commerce revenues while family restaurants were forced to close their doors down. It’s a physical and mental challenge, doing work and chores and homeschooling and babysitting all at the same time. It’s an unending banter against pandemic believers and nonbelivers, pro and anti-vaxxers, White and Asian and Black.

It’s just too much for a year. Too chaotic, too uncertain, too isolated. All these things are filling up our anxious hearts and emptying us of joy.

But we press on. We are shaken but not crushed, struck down but not destroyed.

And in all these, our peace comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
